Licence
Licence & Usage Rights
The short version. Your footage stays yours. Once you have paid in full, the finished videos are yours to use anywhere, in any medium, for as long as you like. This page explains the detail: what you own, what stays with Film Me, how music and other licensed material works, and what AI-generated material means for ownership.
How this licence works
This licence forms part of our Terms & Conditions. It applies to every project unless your quote or a signed contract says otherwise, in which case those terms win. In this licence:
- Your Materials. the footage, audio, logos, fonts, scripts, transcripts, graphics and other material you supply
- Deliverables. the finished files listed in your deliverables matrix: masters, versions, cutdowns, aspect ratios, language versions and caption or subtitle files
- Project Files. edit projects and timelines, proxies, working renders, unused material and the templates built for your project
- Third-Party Materials. material we license from others, such as music, sound effects, stock footage, fonts and plug-ins
- Film Me Tools. our own know-how, workflows, automations, presets, templates and prompts
Your materials stay yours
You keep all rights in Your Materials. You give Film Me a non-exclusive licence to use them only to make your Deliverables. We do not use them for anything else, and we do not use them to train AI models.
You own the deliverables
When you have paid all amounts due for the project, Film Me assigns to you all copyright and other intellectual property rights that we own in the Deliverables. Third-Party Materials and Film Me Tools are not part of this assignment.
From then on, you can use, publish, broadcast, edit, re-version, translate, sub-license and distribute the Deliverables anywhere in the world, in any medium, without time limit and without paying us anything more.
Until payment is made in full, you may review the Deliverables and use them internally. Public release requires full payment, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
Project files
Project Files stay with Film Me and are kept for 12 months after delivery, and never less than 60 days. If you will need the edit projects later, for example so your own team can make changes, tell us before the project starts and we will quote for preparing and handing them over. Any third-party fonts, music or plug-ins used in them must then be licensed by you.
Music, stock and other licensed material
Third-Party Materials are licensed, not owned, so we cannot assign them to you. Instead, we arrange a licence that covers your use of the Deliverables. Unless your quote says otherwise:
- music and stock footage are licensed for worldwide online, social, internal, event and presentation use, for an unlimited time, as part of the Deliverables
- broadcast TV, cinema and paid advertising may need an upgraded licence. Tell us where your videos will run and we will clear them before delivery.
- you may not take Third-Party Materials out of the Deliverables and use them on their own
- your brand fonts and any music you supply remain licensed to you under your own agreements
AI-generated material
We do not use AI-generated footage, voices or likenesses in client work without your written agreement. See How Film Me uses AI.
Where generated material is used with your agreement, please be aware that Australian copyright law protects works with a human author. Material generated mainly by AI may not be protected by copyright, and the law in this area is still developing. In practice:
- any rights we hold in generated material made for your Deliverables are assigned to you with everything else
- we will not reuse, resell or license that material to anyone else
- we cannot stop others from independently generating similar material, and we cannot guarantee that you could enforce exclusive rights over a purely generated element
AI-assisted work such as transcription, caption drafts and first-pass translation is checked and finished by people. It forms part of the Deliverables you own.
White-label work for agencies
When we work for an agency, the rights in the Deliverables are assigned to the agency, or to its client if the agency asks us in writing. The agency may present the work as its own. We will not claim credit for it or show it without the agency’s written permission.
People in your footage
You are responsible for having the permissions needed from the people who appear in Your Materials. Your use of the Deliverables is limited to what those permissions allow. Where Film Me films for you, we obtain releases from the talent we engage, and we can supply release forms for your own people.
Moral rights
Under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth), creators have moral rights, including the right to be credited and the right not to have their work treated in a derogatory way. To the extent the law allows, Film Me obtains consent from its editors and collaborators for you to edit, cut down, re-version, translate and use the Deliverables without crediting them.
Our portfolio licence
For direct clients, you give Film Me a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to show the Deliverables, or excerpts and stills from them, in our portfolio, showreel, website and case studies once you have publicly released them. This does not apply to confidential projects or white-label work, or if you ask us in writing not to show your work.

Questions
If you need a different arrangement, such as exclusive rights, a buy-out of the project files or a broadcast licence, use the enquiry form or message Rupert on WhatsApp. We will put it in your quote.
