Post-Production Brief Template

A free brief template from Film Me for any video editing or post-production project. Fill in the seven sections and send it to your editor with your footage. It works for a single film and for programmes of hundreds of files.

1. The project

Project name
Organisation and main contact
What is this video (or series) for? One sentence.
Who will watch it, where, and on what device?

2. Deliverables

Number of master films
Cutdowns needed (durations)
Aspect ratios (16:9, 1:1, 9:16, other)
Languages
Captions: none / burned-in / separate files
Regional or brand variants
Total finished files (masters × (1 + cutdowns) × ratios × languages × captions × variants)

3. Footage and materials

What has been shot, and roughly how many hours?
Cameras and formats
Where is it stored, and how will it be transferred?
Scripts, transcripts, shot notes available?
Names and job titles of people on screen (exact spelling)

4. Brand and style

Brand guidelines, fonts and logo files attached?
Lower-third or title templates
Music: supplied, library, or rules for choosing
Two reference films you like, and why
One reference you do not like, and why

5. Review and approval

Final approver (one name)
Others who will give feedback
Review tool
Review rhythm (for example: batch each Tuesday, notes by Thursday)
Interested in starting with a pilot batch? Yes / No

6. Dates

Final deadline, and the reason for it
Fixed points before then (events, launches, sign-off meetings)

7. Constraints

Confidentiality or NDA required?
Legal or compliance review?
Accessibility requirements
Any policy on the use of AI tools with your footage?
Budget range, if known
